Who doesn't love travelling? NONE!
If you also suffer from "I-have-to-travel-every-2-months" syndrome, you will probably find hard to save money for a 5 stars trip.
You rather switch the "gipsy mode" on, grab a backpack and go.
But this doesn't mean your trip will be worse or less interesting; it is actually THE OPPOSITE!
Here few tips and personal stories on how to spend less and what could eventually happen.
1. Hitchhiking
Showing the thumb up on the road can be a good way to save money, but not always the fastest.
I personally did it once, and it was kind of traumatic. First, it took ages for each car to stop (I was hitchhiking from Denmark to Berlin) and it was not so pleasent with the danish "fresh air" through your hair.
Second, some people are just dumb and they try to make fun of you by showing you the middle finger/honking/laughing/shaking their head.
Third, if you take different cars, you have to keep repeating the same story to all the drivers asking you where you are going, what you do in life and how many times you poop per week.
2. Couchsurfing
It is such a cool thing. I have tried it myself few times and even joined one of those events they usually organize. It is great to not spend money, meet new friends and sometimes have a guide to visit the place.
But obviously not everyone is perfect, and apparently I found that "unperfect person".
It also happened in Berlin, and the guy hosting me and my friend was kind of weird. Apart from that, he decided to host 7 girls the same night and sleeping in the same couch (don´t ask me why. I still ask myself why I stayed there). So, as there was not space 4 us, we had to sleep on the frozen floor with a blanket thick as a piece of paper!
So guys, make sure you read the feedback well! :)
3.Free walking tours
Very interesting and totally free (they ask 4 tips and the end, but it's totally up to you).
I have tried few in different countries and I always had good experiences! It is also a different way to meet new people (I have noticed there is always someone trying to hook up too)
:)
4. Travelling by bus
It can be cheaper than flying, but definitely not easier.
Longest time I´ve stayed in a bus? 14 hours, from London to Aberdeen. NIGHTMARE. Something has to happen to me all the time so I have a fabulous story here too.
I was in the bus in the middle of the night and the driver decided to stop in a petrol station for a small break. After drinking my coffee I went back to the bus and noticed that the girl who was seated next to me before disappeared, together with my bag. I didn't pay much attention as it was dark and I was sure I wasn't looking in the right seats. So I just sat somewhere else and slept till the morning.
With the sunlight, I realized no girl or my bag were in the bus. Panicking I said to the driver that that girl run away with my bag and to check all the cameras in the bus. While discussing outside, I realized that the number of the bus wasn't the same as on the bus I´ve started the journey with.
Basically: During the break in the petrol station there were 2 buses, exactly the same, next to each other and,of course, I entered in the wrong one.
At the end, when I could catch my bus., the poor girl I accused of theft told me: "Oh are you here? I thought you got lost!
So people as you can see, different things can happen while trying to make your trip easy. But I guess that all these fucked-up situations will be the one you will remember for long and always with a smile on your face!!
